Triplanet App

Triplanet

It is an independent project, which inspired from my last Japan trip and my friends’ experience. I did this project in 4 weeks from the beginning to the end including research, iterations, prototyping, usability testing, and final UI design. This app helps you plan a trip of a lifetime that you can experience the local culture while at the time fulfill your interests.

The opportunity

Here’s the deal: You planned a trip but were too lazy or busy to research the place in depth. And when you got there, you realized you knew nothing about the culture.

Or how about this: You’re in a new city all alone because your best friend was either too busy, had different interests, or is too much of a homebody to come with you to the ancient monkey shrine. Who will come with you to the ancient monkey shrine!?!

This is just one of the many challenges that people face when planning a trip.

The challenge

Trips are meant to be enjoyed. How can we minimize planning time anxiety for solo travelers?

Planning the perfect itinerary is extremely time consuming and confusing: When to visit, what to see, and where to stay are just some of these big questions.

The solution

Help you To Make A Experiential Travel Plan!

User testing

Key findings:

Users like more personalized research resources based on their interests.

Iterations

Testing 1 - On boarding

Easy to type destinations and interests, users more like this personalized idea and then set up interest chosen with no limitations and user feel happy with it and make their decisions in a short time.

Testing 2 - Planning template

Users prefer all the elements are emphasized in the right order and feel in control rather than take an extra step.

The outcome

An App that helps you plan the trip of a lifetime by pairing your interests to an exploration of local culture

Discover travel guide

"Recommended" lists popular recommendations of places to see and activities to do. "Journals" displays traveler insights, stories, and travel plans. “Live” notifies travelers about local festivals and events happening at that moment.

Save favorite or add to plan

Favorites will allow users to see and quickly add to previous “likes.”

Users can quickly browse other people's journals and automatically save their Favorites when they tap "Like." It’s easy to make plans by selecting previously saved items from Favorites.

Create your plan

Users can make their plans when they finish their research. The “Search" option offers users another way to find more travel resources, including Top Sights, All, Restaurants, Nightlife, Shop, and Food. Users can quickly upload attractions, restaurants, and favorite places if they need more options. When users have done the research, they also can add notes and tips if they want. When they finish adding their hotels and destinations, Triplanet will make route adjustments based on destination pins, saving time and distance. The “Share” icon allows users to share with their friends via message, email or other social media apps.

What I learned and final reflection

Do a small thing very well, focus on one problem at a time

A lot of design ideas come along with brainstorming during the design process, however, trying to solve too many problems buries the real jewelry - the core one that users are facing. Therefore, I kept telling myself that I have to move forward and make a quick decision. During the process, keeping asking myself “why” and “how” and getting insights from user testing considerably smooth the decision making.
